A double for METZELER in the comparative tyre tests carried out by the British publication Motorcycle News |
The brand has won both the comparative of supersport tyres with SPORTEC™ M7 RR as well as the one devoted to sport touring tyres with the new ROADTEC™ 01, which also saw the ROADTEC™ Z8 INTERACT™ finish second |
Munich (Germany), 25 March 2016 – After readers of the German publication Motorrad voted Metzeler as the Best Brand for Motorcycle Tyres, another international award followed, this time from the UK. The authoritative British motorcycle weekly publication Motorcycle News made two comparative tyre tests decreeing in both cases tyres from METZELER as the winners.
The British paper has published this week a large and detailed four-page article entitled “2016 TYRE TEST – GRIP FACTOR”. This test compared both the main supersport and sport touring tyres on the market, and saw the METZELER SPORTEC™ M7 RR crowned victor in the former and the brand new METZELER ROADTEC™ 01 in the latter.
The comparative test of supersport tyres was performed using a 2015 BMW S1000RR Sport with ‘Race’ mode throttle, TC, ABS and semi-active suspension with tyres in 120/70 -17 front and 190/55 -17 rear sizes. The test was carried out at the Spanish circuit of MotorLand Aragón on February 29, 2016 with a track temperature of 8° C. The test was carried out by MCN Senior Road Tester, Michael Neeves. To ensure fairness, all the tyres involved were hidden in unplugged tyre warmers and therefore entered the track cold. Each set of tyres was tested for five laps and was rated on a scale from 1 to 10 based on fourteen different evaluation parameters among which included the warm-up time, handling, tyre neutrality, sporty character, ease of use, stability, bump absorption, cold grip and the lap time. METZELER SPORTEC™ M7 RR won the comparative thanks to the extremely quick warm-up, the confidence and safety when riding hard, and the ease of use that has made it possible to achieve the fastest lap.
This is the final ranking of the supersport tyre test with lap times and final vote on a scale of 1-10:
1. METZELER SPORTEC™ M7 RR | 2:09.46 | 8.9/10 2. Pirelli DIABLO ROSSO™ III | 2:10.12 | 8.2/10 3. Continental SportAttack3 | 2:11.81 | 7.6/10 4. Bridgestone Battlax S21 | 2:10.83 | 7.2/10 5. Dunlop SportSmart 2 | 2:15.02 | 6.1/10 6. Michelin Pilot Power 3 | 2:16.12 | 5.9/10
Even more significant is the result obtained by METZELER in the sport touring tyre comparative test, where the German-born brand achieved the top spot in the standings with the new ROADTEC™ 01, just introduced on the market, and second place with ROADTEC™ Z8 INTERACT™. In this case the test was conducted on surrounding roads around the MotorLand Aragón circuit using a 2015 BMW R1200RS with ‘Rain’ mode throttle, TC, ABS and semi-active suspension with tyres in 120/70 – 17 front and 180/55 – 17 rear sizes. Once again the test was carried out by Senior Road Tester Michael Neeves on February 28, 2016 with track temperatures between 6° and 16° and variable conditions of wet and dry, as well as cold and wind. As per the supersport test, the tyres were hidden by unplugged tyre warmers and each set of tyres was tested on a 17,5 mile varied path that had different track conditions typical of a normal road that every motorcycle could face in travel. Again, each tyre was evaluated with a score from 1 to 10 based on fifteen parameters of evaluation. The new METZELER ROADTEC™ 01 won in an overwhelming way but an important confirmation also comes from the METZELER ROADTEC™ Z8 INTERACT™, already winner of the MCN TYRE OF THE YEAR award, which was ranked second. This shows that, with the new ROADTEC™ 01, METZELER has further improved the performance offered in the field of sports touring tyres, a segment in which it was already excelling with ROADTEC™ Z8 INTERACT™. The products of the competition were quite a distance from the performance demonstrated by the METZELER tyres.
This is the final ranking of the sport touring tyre test with final vote on a scale of 1-10:
1. METZELER ROADTEC™ 01 | 9.8/10 2. METZELER ROADTEC™ Z8 INTERACT™ | 9/10 3. Bridgestone Battlax T30 EVO | 8.1/10 4. Dunlop RoadSmart III | 7.7/10 5. Continental RoadAttack2 EVO | 7.5/10 6. Michelin Pilot Road 4 GT | 7.3/10 |
